The Menopause, it’s so much more than a word and so much more than a drop in hormone levels. It’s something different to every individual that experiences it. Some women breeze through it with very minimal symptoms. However for other women the physical symptoms can be a challenge; with symptoms including hot flashes and sleeplessness, loss of libido, vaginal dryness, mood swings and weight gain to name the most common.
There are changes to how we perceive ourselves too, no more babies; even if we have made that decision ourselves many years before, it’s still a jolt to have nature make it impossible to change our minds (without considerable scientific intervention).
If we do have children they may be showing signs of becoming independent or are already independent of us, and as much as we may have looked forward to the freedom that that represents, it’s also a little soul destroying to no longer be needed quite as much by the people we’ve devoted a large part of our adult lives to.
Approximately 50% of us will have been through Divorce or separation and the associated trauma; in which case life is not turning out the way we had not only dreamed, but planned and assumed for a significant portion of our adult life. Financially we may be set back much further than we had imagined we’d be at this point.
These are just some of the factors that can contribute to a rocky road through Menopause.
So who are we when we are no longer potentially the mother of more children, or the life support system to a brood of young children, or the young office gun, or whoever we’ve considered ourselves to be up to this point? Do we even remember who we thought we were before everybody else’s needs suddenly took precedence over our own?
These are just some of the issues and questions that bombard women when they reach this stage of their lives. And this is why Hypnotherapy is such an effective and holistic solution to helping women navigate through this stage, and onto living the fulfilling life of achieving goals and dreams that they deserve.
*How does Hypnotherapy Help?
Hypnotherapy combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques can help women reconnect with their authentic selves. Skilled counselling enables the woman to be truly heard and to become aware of unhelpful thinking styles that may have crept in while she’s been feeling less than 100%. The Hypnosis component assists the woman to experience herself in her most resourceful state of being. It reacquaints her with her dreams and hope for the future and all the potential for fulfillment that lies ahead.
The impact of the physical symptoms can also be significantly reduced through techniques anchored during hypnosis, controls are implemented and focus is redirected which short circuits the spiral that can often occur with some symptoms e.g. the hot flash triggers anxiety which in turn perpetuates the hot flash. Sleeping techniques are also taught and anchored during hypnosis. Additionally there are techniques which can be applied at any time during the day to break the pattern sufficiently to reduce symptoms the moment they arise.
