Binge eating support in Mentone and by telehealth

Compassionate, weight-neutral support alongside your GP and treatment team. Telehealth appointments available Australia-wide.

Hypfocus Therapies offers compassionate, non-judgemental hypnotherapy and counselling support for adults who struggle with binge eating. Sessions are with Georgina Mitchell in Mentone or by telehealth anywhere in Australia. This is support alongside your GP and treatment team, not eating-disorder treatment on its own, and not a weight-loss programme. Language here is weight-neutral and shame-free. Hypnotherapy and counselling can sit beside medical, psychological and dietetic care; they do not replace them.

Telehealth appointments available Australia-wide.

Important — see your GP first: If you think you might have binge eating disorder, please see your GP first. Eating disorders affect physical health, and your GP can assess you, arrange tests if needed and refer you to an eating disorder treatment plan.

Butterfly Foundation: For free, confidential support about eating disorders and body image, contact the Butterfly Foundation National Helpline on 1800 33 4673 (1800 ED HOPE), 7 days a week, 8am–midnight (AEST/AEDT), or visit butterfly.org.au/get-support/helpline. The Butterfly Helpline is not a crisis or medical service.

What is binge eating?

Binge eating often means eating a large amount of food in a relatively short time, with a sense of loss of control, and feeling distressed or ashamed afterwards. Binge eating disorder is a recognised eating disorder. This page is not a diagnostic tool — only a qualified health professional can assess that.

Am I binge eating, or is it emotional eating?

Many people eat in response to stress, tiredness or emotion without meeting criteria for an eating disorder. Online “binge eating disorder tests” can raise useful questions, but they are not a diagnosis. For clear information and support, see the Butterfly Foundation and speak with your GP. You are welcome to contact Hypfocus for a short phone chat about whether counselling and hypnotherapy might sit alongside that care.

Why willpower isn’t the answer

Binge eating is rarely fixed by trying harder to restrict. Cycles of restriction, stress, strong emotion, fatigue and impulsivity (including for some neurodivergent adults) can all play a part. Support that only focuses on willpower or weight often misses the point. If neurodivergence is part of your picture, you may also find neurodiversity coaching (/neurodiversity-coaching) relevant — still as complementary support, not as eating-disorder treatment.

Where can hypnotherapy and counselling fit?

At Hypfocus, sessions may help you:

  • understand personal triggers and patterns without shame
  • calm the stress response that often sits underneath binge urges
  • build pause-and-choose skills and self-compassion
  • practise new responses in a focused, relaxed state during hypnosis

This work is always framed as one part of wider care. Results differ from person to person. There are no guarantees, no before-and-after weight promises, and no diet prescriptions on this page.

Working with your GP and treatment team

Your GP can assess physical health, arrange investigations if needed, and discuss a Medicare Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan, which can include psychology and dietetic sessions. With your consent, Georgina can work alongside your GP, psychologist or dietitian. Please keep taking any prescribed medication and follow medical advice about physical health.
