Telehealth hypnotherapy and counselling in Victoria and across Australia
Secure video sessions with Georgina Mitchell, Mentone VIC
Hypfocus Therapies offers clinical hypnotherapy and counselling by secure video for adults anywhere in Australia, from Melbourne and regional Victoria to every other state and territory. Sessions are with Georgina Mitchell, a clinical member of the Australian Hypnotherapy Association and a member of the Australian Counselling Association, based in Mentone, Victoria, and follow the same gentle approach as in-person sessions. Hypnotherapy is a complementary approach that can sit alongside care from your GP or other health professionals.
What is telehealth hypnotherapy?
Telehealth hypnotherapy is a hypnotherapy session held over a secure video call instead of in a therapy room. You talk with Georgina face to face on screen, just as you would in Mentone, and when it’s time for hypnosis you simply settle back in your chair, close your eyes and listen.
Because hypnotherapy relies on conversation, focused attention and guided imagery rather than touch, it can be done by video. Some people find it easier to relax in their own space, without travel or a waiting room. Others prefer to come in person. You’re welcome to try either, or to mix the two.
Who can have telehealth sessions?
Telehealth sessions are for adults anywhere in Australia. Many clients are in Victoria, whether in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Gippsland, the Mornington Peninsula or a small country town, and Georgina also sees people in every other state and territory. Overseas clients are welcome too: see the FAQ below about time zones and fees.
People often choose telehealth when:
they live too far from Mentone to travel regularly
work, study or caring responsibilities make travel time hard to fit in
anxiety, illness, pain or fatigue makes leaving the house difficult
they simply feel more at ease at home
Telehealth isn’t the right fit for everyone. If Georgina thinks in-person sessions or a different service would suit you better, she’ll tell you honestly.
What can we work on by telehealth?
Most of what Georgina offers in person can also be done online, including support for:
anxiety, panic, social anxiety and phobias
stress and burnout
sleep difficulties
IBS and gut-directed hypnotherapy
skin picking, hair pulling and nail biting
nervous system regulation
online counselling
neurodiversity coaching
What is an online session like?
Your first appointment is longer (up to 90 minutes) and is mostly a conversation about what brings you in, your health, any medication and your goals. Later sessions (up to 60 minutes) usually begin with a check-in and some talking, then move into hypnosis, and finish with time to reflect and plan what to practise before next time.
During hypnosis you stay aware and in control. You can hear everything, you can open your eyes or speak at any time, and you can stop whenever you like. Many people find they feel very relaxed afterwards, so plan a few quiet minutes before you jump back into work or drive anywhere.
You’ll join through Cliniko’s built-in video. The link is sent to you before your appointment. You don’t need to download anything special.
How do I set up for a telehealth session?
A few simple things help sessions run smoothly:
A private, quiet room where you won’t be interrupted or overheard. Pop a note on the door if that helps.
A comfortable chair that supports your head and neck. A bed is fine too if you won’t fall asleep.
A reliable internet connection and a charged device. A laptop or tablet on a stable surface usually works better than holding a phone.
Headphones, if you have them, so you can hear clearly and keep things private.
Notifications off, and pets settled elsewhere if possible.
Don’t join while driving or in a public place. For safety, you’ll be asked to confirm where you are at the start of each session.

What happens if the internet drops out?
It happens occasionally, and it’s nothing to worry about. If the video freezes during hypnosis, you’ll simply drift back to normal alertness, much as you would if someone spoke to you during a daydream. Georgina will try to reconnect, or call you on the mobile number you’ve given. That’s why it helps to keep your phone nearby on silent.
Is telehealth private and secure?
Sessions are held on Cliniko’s built-in video, and what you share is kept confidential in line with Georgina’s professional codes of ethics through the Australian Hypnotherapy Association and the Australian Counselling Association. Sessions are not recorded. On your side, using a private room and headphones goes a long way.
How much do telehealth sessions cost?
Fees for telehealth sessions are listed on the Fees page (hypfocus.com.au/fees). Hypnotherapy isn’t covered by Medicare. Some private health funds may offer a rebate for hypnotherapy or counselling, but policies differ, including on telehealth, so please check with your fund before booking.
Should I involve my GP?
If you’re dealing with a health condition, it’s a good idea to keep your GP in the loop. Your GP can rule out physical causes, look after medication, and refer you to other services such as a psychologist under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Hypnotherapy can be used alongside that care, not instead of it.
